About Us

WELCOME TO TROOP 774 OF LAGUNA WOODS, CALIFORNIA!

About Us

Troop 774, established in 1984, has a troop for both boys and girls with a combined membership of approximately 90 scouts. Our goals are to emphasize leadership and self-reliance, instill Scout values, and build character through participation in outdoor activities, rank advancements, and the studying of diverse fields within the merit badge program. We are truly a scout-led organization and many of our scouts are members of Order of the Arrow, National Youth Leadership Training graduates, National Jamboree participants, and even National Order of the Arrow Chief!

“We Do More”

Our motto of “We Do More” shines through the many activities we do that are designed to improve technical skills and leadership abilities, and above all, have fun!

Activities - Activities offered by Troop 774 include camping, hiking, community service opportunities, summer camp, and many more. Check out the “Hiking” tab on the Menu to see where we have been.

Merit Badge Classes - Various different Merit Badge Classes are offered with our Troop the last Tuesday of every month. We offer 4-5 classes each session, including at least one Eagle required merit badge.

Camping and Gear - Troop 774 camps about once every 6 weeks. All major camping gear is provided by the Troop and is held in the patrol boxes (does not include personal items such as: sleeping bags, pads, mess kits and personal belongings).

Meetings - Troop meetings are held every Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 at Laguna Country Methodist Church, which is located at 24442 Moulton Parkway, Laguna Woods, CA 92637. The first Tuesday of the month only Troop Committee and Patrol Leadership meet. The last Tuesday is reserved for Merit Badge Classes. All meetings are planned and run by the Senior Patrol Leader.

Court of Honor - Three times a year Troop 774 gathers to recognize our Scouts' achievements and advancements where the whole family is invited.

Leadership

Troop 774 is led by a troop elected youth called a Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and assisted by an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL), who is appointed by the SPL.  The scouts are divided into Patrols of 8-10 members  and each Patrol is led by a Patrol Leader. Other positions of leadership include the Scribe, Historian, Quartermaster, Librarian, Chaplain's Aide, Troop Guide, and Den Chief opportunities. Elections are held twice a year for most positions, with the exception of the SPL and Patrol Leaders. Each year when new leadership is elected, the old and new leaders gather for a weekend to plan and brainstorm the following year’s activities, which is often centered around a theme. From this weekend, the entire calendar for the following year is formed.

Volunteering

Like any Boy Scout troop, none of this would be possible without the help of our amazing parent volunteers. For almost 30 years, Troop 774 has been able to offer a quality scouting program being 100% volunteer run. Adults from all scout families are encouraged to volunteer. There are many fun opportunities to get involved and help out.
